About Me

A Patient Violin Teacher

Growing up in San Carlos, CA, I never imagined that pursuing and mastering the violin would become my lifelong goal. From an early age, I was driven by a desire to help others while finding joy in my work. My passion for string instruments began in the 5th grade at Tierra Linda Middle School, where I started learning the viola. Without the guidance of a private teacher, I dedicated countless days and nights to honing my skills through sheer determination and self-discipline.

In the 8th grade, I transitioned to the violin, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. By my junior year of high school, my mother took on a second job to support my studies with the renowned Antoine von Dongen. Her sacrifice and belief in my potential fueled my progress and allowed me to achieve more than anyone could have anticipated.

Since then, I’ve been honored with prestigious scholarships and earned the role of concertmaster in my symphony orchestras. These milestones are a testament to the hard work, resilience, and passion that have shaped my path.

Now, I’m eager to share my knowledge and experience with others who aspire to learn and grow as musicians. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills, I’m here to guide you. Contact me today to schedule your first lesson!

My goals for your student:

My primary goal for all my students is to help them connect deeply with music. I believe every aspiring musician deserves guidance, regardless of the obstacles they may face. I’m committed to being transparent and supportive, ensuring each student discovers the same passion for music that has shaped my own journey. Together, we’ll build a strong foundation that will serve as the cornerstone of their musical career.

I encourage every student to consistently strive to put their best foot forward. In my teaching, “mistakes” are not failures—they’re opportunities to learn and grow, both as musicians and as individuals. Through dedication and perseverance, we’ll transform challenges into stepping stones toward success.

I'm truly grateful for all the love and support I've been given. I hope to see you or your student make beautiful music sooner than later!

What do I need to start playing?

There are many violin stores around! You can speak with me directly to figure out my personal choices of stores in the area. Always contact the store ahead of time and decide if you're looking into buying or renting an instrument.

How much should I practice?

Learning an instrument takes a lot of time. I recommend anywhere from 30 min to 1 hour or practicing to start off. HOWEVER, everybody is different and everyone has very different life styles. I will always find a way for each student to balance life and practice. Later, the time should increase as the music gets harder. if anything, consistency and focus is crucial to practicing!

I've never played before, is that okay?

Of course! I've taught people from the very first time they've picked up their violin/viola! I care about the fundamentals and getting the very basics in tact so that we can have a solid foundation before we start playing harder music.

What supplies should I get?

People have different experiences and different supplies depending on their personal needs. However, all my students learn from the same book and use almost the same supplies, more or less. A list will be given after the first trial lesson to begin our journey in exploring the wonderful world of music!

"My son has been getting lessons ever since quarantine started and it's been wonderful! I wanted for my son to stimulate his brain rather than to stay at home watching tv. This was the best alternative yet! He comes to me every time he learns a new song with a big smile on his face. This is just something you don't get to see everyday and I'm glad he has the helpful hand of Adrian to help guide him throughout his own violin journey."
